I have wanted to have a conversation about a topic I am calling ‘calcification‘ for a while now.
Mainly as it relates to our minds.
But then I saw some breaking news in the USA about a form of calcification that has been pretty well known in health circles, but is very unknown by the general public.
And it also directly impacts the mind (via the brain).
In fact this chemical, knowingly added to most municipal water supplies, is actually shown to lower IQ (among other things).
And just recently a case was won against the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the USA, where a judge in the Northern District of California ruled in favour of the following: “The scientific literature in the record provides a high level of certainty that a hazard is present; fluoride is associated with reduced IQ.“
Most people don’t know that fluoride was originally chemical waste, but then it got repackaged, repurposed and marketed as a thing to protect against cavities, due to it’s ability to calcify things.
I have always wondered how it came to believed that by ingesting something that causes calcification, could be great for your teeth but would NEVER create calcification within any other parts of your body. As if the ingested fluoride is magically just isolated to the teeth and does not affect joints, or the gut, or the brain.
If you think about it, that’s bonkers!!
It is like the downside of pharmaceuticals.
They go throughout the entire body, and not just the area where the soreness, inflammation or issue might be.
If you are new to the conversation about fluoridation (which has been challenged for decades!), then it might be time to duck out and grab a decent water filter, or send some letters to your local council and ask them to check out the results from the court ruling in the USA.
Here is a great article by Jeffrey Jaxon – an investigative journalist called “Landmark: Court Rules Fluoride Poses Unreasonable Risk of Injury to Health of the Public” which goes into a lot more detail.
Now we have looked at a physical element of “calcification”, let’s take a different direction, and explore the mind.
The “Calcification of Beliefs”
I have immersed myself into the study of ‘Beliefs’ and their impact on our lives for 25+ years.
Beliefs influence our results significantly and most often without us knowing the causal effect.
They can cause our feelings and behaviours to run (unconsciously) on autopilot, which can be great if our beliefs are empowering, or crappers if they aren’t.
If you want to go deeper in all things ‘beliefs’ check out my free audiobook (The Successful Mind) which I have uploaded to YouTube for you.
Today I want to focus on a principle, which often plays out with my coaching clients.
It is the idea of rigidity of beliefs.
What I call calcification of beliefs.
It is essentially being stuck in a belief (or story) where there is resistance to changing the belief, even when new information makes the old belief obsolete or incorrect.
If we acknowledge that our beliefs are a combination of our PAST knowledge and experience – and the meaning we gave them – plus stuff we downloaded from people as we grew up (parents, teachers, society, etc.); then we might also accept that our beliefs need UPDATING on a regular basis, as new information is presented.
The other challenge with calcification of beliefs is it creates a distorted ‘lens of perception’ biased towards outdated beliefs, which causes as to see what we are searching for, as opposed to the real-world feedback life may be presenting us.
I believe life is much harder – and less easeful and graceful – if we are rigidly stuck with immoveable beliefs.
We don’t want our beliefs to be calcified and rigid, but we want them to flow like the subtle electricity and chemical pathways that animate our brains.
The acknowledgement of Neurogenesis tells us the brain can create new neurons for the entirety of our lives.
So we want to flow with life.
Let go of old beliefs that no longer serve us.
Update our beliefs and stories as new knowledge and experience is offered.
We need to prune away stuff that is no longer relevant – at the age we are now – so that we can continue to evolve.
We need to unleash our full potential by busting out of the shackles of rigidity, that are nothing more then self imposed limitations.
Be open to hearing new ideas.
Listen to what some would call ‘conspiracies’ and see if any of it makes sense.
Expand your world view.
Expand what you feel you are capable of.
Because, I can assure you (having coached for years), there are – right now – beliefs you are carrying around with you, that are no longer of service and are holding you back from your full potential.
I know that with ABSOLUTE certainty!
Maybe the statement that best sums up the principle point I am making today is this:
“Keep an open mind.”
Which for me is the opposite of a constricted, limiting and calcified mind.
In Summary:
There is now greater recognition of the potential harms from the ingestion of Fluoride, so get a water filter.
We need to metaphorically work on having unshackled (uncalcified) beliefs, so that we don’t limit our potential and have the psychological capacity to change our beliefs when new, more relevant information becomes available.
Beliefs aren’t ‘facts’ so don’t chisel them into stone and treat then as irrefutable.
And finally, the one thing that is a fact is the universe is ALWAYS involved in a process of change, evolution and expansion, so to personally do otherwise (i.e. not change) would be to go against the laws of nature.
My Parting Words
Would you say you have an ‘open mind‘?
How open would you say your mind is (honestly) on a scale of 1 to 10?
Obviously we don’t want it so open that it catches all of the crap flying around in our very noisy world.
We still want to have a high level of conscious discernment.
Plus a healthy dose of humility to acknowledge we only know what we know, and don’t know what we don’t know.
Did you know about the potential harms from Fluoride, or is that information new to you?
The most easy fix, even if you are not 100% certain you believe Fluoride is harmful to your health, is to filter your water (‘just in case’).
And finally, be open to changing or upgrading your beliefs.
Even if you have a belief that has served you for decades, ensure it still serves you TODAY, and if not, be willing to add it to the recycle bin.
Just like the universe, you are likely to experience life more easefully if you flow like the messages coursing through the brain and nervous system, rather than standing rigid like a fossil calcified by the passage of time.
Have a discerning open-minded day, and a week of flow, change and personal evolution.
Take care,
Carl
