A lot of people mean well when they are passing on ‘self-help’ teachings.
But like ‘Chinese Whispers’, through the retelling the actual teaching can become distorted to a point where it eventually becomes incorrect.
This is one of the reasons why I like the yoga taught at The Practice in Bali.
Octavio has put a lot of time, energy and effort (20+ years) into trying to best understand the traditional teachings, which were trialed, tested, and replicated over 1000’s of years.
Most people don’t realise the traditional teachings of yoga are more about creating an elevated ‘mind’ as opposed to a flexible body.
So today I want to talk about another ‘teaching’ that has been mistaught.
You have most likely heard this
I am willing to bet the shirt off my back – if I was wearing one – that you have heard this, or something similar.
“If I think negative thoughts I will attract the things I am thinking about, therefore I have to guard against having negative thoughts.”
In a very general sense this is a sound piece of advice.
It makes sense to work on initiating thoughts of expansion, life-affirming goodness, possibility and the likes.
But too often this teaching is misinterpreted, or is incomplete in its specificity, and actually leads to unnecessary feelings of FEAR.
A fear of thinking ANY “bad” thoughts, or you will (most likely) attract the thing you don’t want.
But this is not the whole truth.
And the incomplete truth causes unnecessary fear (a fear of thinking a ‘bad’ or non-positive thought), and then an unwillingness – because of fear – to actually consider what could realistically and practically go wrong in different circumstances.
I personally believe I am in a co-creative universe, which means I actually need to roll my sleeves up to get sh#t done.
Which means in the physical world I live in, and interact with, it is in my best interest on occasions, to zoom out and look at the big picture and imagine the potential things that could go wrong, in order for me to come up with contingency plans to mitigate these challenges.
A more accurate teaching
I am a fan of Dr Joe Dispenza’s work (if you haven’t watched his documentary ‘Source‘ do check it out).
He is a neuroscientist, author and teacher, who has endeavoured to bring science and the metaphysical teachings together.
He also comes up with great sayings.
One of them is essentially:
“The thought sends the signal out, and our emotions draw back to us that which we most desire.”
This is the process we want to use for manifestation.
We have a very clear thought of what it is we most desire, and then we connect to an elevated emotional state while linking to the thought of the thing we desire and then release that signal out into the unified quantum field.
As you can see, there are 2 distinct parts:
1) The Thought.
2) The Elevated Emotional State.
Now, bringing this back to our conversation about “a negative thought causes that thing to happen” (or be made manifest), you can see the teaching is incomplete, or lacks potency, without the addition of emotions.
So it is OKAY to have a thought about something that may potentially go wrong (and you don’t desire), which can enable you to actually make preparations to mitigate that potential risk or outcome.
However, it is NOT OKAY, to infuse the thought of the worst case scenario with an elevated (negative) emotional state, as this is more likely to draw that likelihood to you.
Plus at a brain level, the image (thought) plus an elevated emotional state, can inadvertently program the subconscious brain to believe the emotionally charged image is the thing you most desire, and to therefore help you achieve it.
And just to inject a Caveat at this stage too, it is the REPEATED ‘negative’ thought, and ‘negative’ emotional state that is most likely going to manifest an outcome you don’t want to happen.
Making the formula look like this:
Clear Thought + Elevated Emotional State + Repetition = Manifestation (of the thought)
I also have a personal hypothesis that a ‘positive‘ elevated emotional state (excitement, awe, love, appreciation, etc.), infuses more creative potential into the process, than a ‘survival‘ elevated emotional state (fear, jealousy, disgust, anger, etc.), due to their differing vibrational frequencies and therefore effect on the quantum field.
Let’s add one final piece
I would also add to the formula – to enhance the probability and possibility of manifesting the things you most desire – one additional element.
Right Action.
We live – in a general sense – in a physical world, so right action helps align, reenforce and anchor the thought and feeling.
I believe it is possible to manifest without physical action, but it is much harder for most people to attain this level of influence on the quantum field.
And I also believe that right action without the elevated emotional state is a much harder and slower way to manifest stuff.
In Summary:
If you think a negative thought you are not automatically going make that happen in your life.
It is okay to think about what could possibly go wrong, including the ‘worst-case scenario’ (to plan contingencies), so long as you don’t infuse the thought with repetitive negative emotions.
The opposite of what ‘not to do’ is what you want to do to manifest things in your life.
The formula for co-creation is this:
Clear Thought + Elevated Emotional State + Repetition + Right Action = Manifestation (of the thought)
My Parting Words
As you may or may not know, I am not such a fan of ‘unconscious’ sayings.
That is, things that are said, as a generalisation, that don’t necessarily tell the whole story.
They leave out important parts.
Which can lead to incorrect use of the advice, or fear that if done wrong – according to the saying, teaching or generalisation – we can expect negative consequences.
Hence the need for discernment and conscious awareness to discover the true essence of different teachings.
And now for the things you DO want to manifest in your life, you have a more accurate formula.
Happy thoughting, emoting, and rinse-and-repeating.
Enjoy your day as you embrace new insights into creating that which you most desire, and a week of exploration and experimentation with this formula.
Take care.
