This might be a very short article. Might being the operative word. I actually don’t know how long it will be when I sit down at the start writing; because I just write and see what comes out.
So the big question I want to explore (for myself as well as you) is…
WHY ARE YOU (WE) RUSHING?
What’s the hurry? What is the race you are in?
Maybe someone (back in a Victorian times) set us up for failure by penning the words…the human race.
Perhaps we inadvertently set an intention by using the word not how it was intended. And now we are playing it out. Interesting…or…
SHIT!!! (Sorry dad)
I encourage (strongly) that all of my coaching clients include a yoga class or few into their weekly health and well-being regime. When I wrote The Guidebook to Optimum Health, I came to the conclusion that the most complete ‘physical activity’ for overall optimum health & vitality was yoga.
Yoga goes way beyond physiological benefits and ticks off all of the boxes when it comes to health: physical, mental, and emotional.
The reason is because it is one of the oldest practiced sciences when it comes to happiness, well-being and reaching our full human potential. We are talking 1000’s of years to figure out what works and what doesn’t!
I started practicing yoga in 1999 and it was one of the best choices I ever made. It changed my life for the better.
Let me explain why…
Caveat before we start: Unfortunately a lot of ‘modern’ yoga is about busting out spectacular looking yoga poses so you can create an Instagram worthy picture to wow your Insta-fans. The yoga I am interested in is different. It is consciously practiced, in a specific (scientific) way, with high quality teachers, who understand the science and philosophies of the practice (and practice what they teach).
Today I will share with you the most common things I have observed over the last couple of weeks (and numerous years) that hold people back from having a more fulfilling, meaningful, abundant, and joyous life.Â
These are basics. Simple. Common. But they have an uncanny ability to take you off on a meandering path in the opposite direction of your amazingly talented, capable and incredible self. It does not matter whether all three apply to you or just one. The sooner you get on top of these, the better off you and everyone else will be.
Whenever I get in front of a coaching client or step on the stage to present to a group of people, one of the things I really want them to walk away with is the idea that a daily practice of meditation (or dedicated mindfulness) is not only a success multiplier, and sanity tonic, but it is absolutely essential in 2017.
Especially if you own a smart phone of some description.
Would that be you?
Teeth brushed. Check. Food eaten. Check. Fluids drank. Check. Moved body. Check. Showered. Check. Stilled the mind.
Check.
I am telling you. These are all ESSENTIALS for a healthy body and mind.
If you have read any of my writing you know that I am fascinated by what it takes to get more of what we really want, with the least amount of energy, time and resources.
I want to know what it takes to experience life to its fullest. To fully evolve. To have a life experience that is something to write about. And not just in theory. I want to know HOW to change the change the course of my life and the lives of others.
I also realise now that if we make what may seem like a small change now, in 12-months time we are living a completely different life experience.
Plus I realise that the CHOICES we make are the building blocks of our DESTINY. You have the power to change the course of your life. From moment to moment, by the quality of your choices.
And finally I realise that we have been given the gift of ‘free will’ by life. We always have a choice; even if the choice is on how we choose to respond to life’s events. In the end, we always have a choice in shaping our destiny.
So here are two things which will change the course of your life.
If you can guess what the link is between all of the things in the title you get a special big congratulations by me. Well done! And if you don’t quite get the link, and think I am smoking the good stuff, then read on as I unpack my thinking for you. 😉
I actually had a colleague of mine ask if I could write an article on this phenomenon that he has learned over the last few months and which he brings into practice now with considerable positive effects. So what you will be reminded of, is very practical and impactful.
As a result of the Dr Joe Dispenza workshop I did recently, I also have a greater perspective on the ‘stress thing’ from a physiological and quantum physics perspective. Though I am still trying to get my head fully around the inter-dimensional time-space part of the conversation. 😉
Now let’s get started…
As I said I have been on the personal growth journey since Easter 1999. That is when I woke up (and no it was not when I joined a cult and got forgiven for my sins if I did X, Y, and Z … and gave them $10,000 to show my level of commitment ;-)).
Though I did have the right teacher for me, saying the right things, in the right way, at the right time for me to wake up.
I used to tell myself that I was ‘unlucky’. I would always be the one caught with their hand in the cookie jar, or throwing that rock at something I shouldn’t, or saying the wrong thing to someone and making them cry.
I was BLAMING circumstances and people OUTSIDE of myself for the problems I had in my life.
I am someone who rarely gets accused of being whatever the opposite of blunt is; so I am going to give you this insipid, nasty, dream destroying, illness causing, relationship disrupting, C Word straight up.
It is COMPLACENCY.
And don’t you dare be complacent about this word!!!! 😉
It is like a ninja. A silent killer.
It adversely affects peoples potential, the quality of their relationships, the state of their health, the success of their businesses, the meaningfulness of their lives, the legacy that we create and leave behind, and a whole bunch of other negative and depressing to read stuff.
I am sure you get the picture.
This is definitely a question I am asked often and inevitably something I end up working on with all of my clients.
Because everyone, at times, feels this deeply unsettling feeling of ‘being out of balance’. Because we know at some level that it is possible to feel centered, grounded, and harmonious more often. And from a physical perspective, the body and brain, love to be in homeostasis. Which is about balance, calmness and efficient use of energy.
So how do we create that feeling of balance as the default, rather have it show up as an occasional visitor?
Let me tell you what I use and recommend…
