We all have them at times. Them being ‘money issues’.
Whether it is a homeless person or a billionaire. We have all experienced stress when it comes to money and the thinking that does with it. So I am just going to give you a list of some of the most effective Tips I know and have used (sometimes more diligently than others) when it comes to MONEY$$$$$$.
1. What are you telling yourself?
What are your beliefs on money? What is the loop recording you play in your mind when it comes to money? Below are a few of my favourites from clients I have coached over the years:
‘I am no good with money’
‘Money is hard to come by’
‘I never have enough’
‘I don’t know how to hang onto it’
And my favourite…’Money scares me’
Now do you think hearing those starements or ones like them a few hundred times a day will make you stressed out and less resourceful or relaxed and more resourceful? Will they allow you to focus on what you do have (roof over head, food in belly, etc.) or what you don’t have?
So STEP 1 is to IDENTIFY what your persistent beliefs are about money, because those beliefs or monkey chatter are shaping your emotions, behaviour and results.
Awareness is the first step to change.
(If you want a deeper understanding about Beliefs, check out my very informative digital book called ‘Your Beliefs Are Controlling Your Life‘ for only $5.99. Our beliefs create our life, not the other way around)
2. Get perspective
Half the planet live on less than $2 a day. And I recently heard that 80% of the planet live on less than $10 a day.
Focus on what you do have. Work those gratitude muscles whenever you start playing the lack game. Practicing gratitude also PHYSICALLY deactivates the stress response in your body. Gratitude (and compassion) turns off stress. Less stress = more creative mind = better solutions.
3. What would you like to listen to?
Choose a new set of loop recordings.
How does this make you feel? ‘I love money and money loves me‘
Do you think you would be scared of money, or scare it away, or do you think you would ATTRACT it? The answer is obvious and I have seen it miraculously work in myself and others.
How about: ‘There is plenty more where that came from‘
Especially when you say this as you pay for something. The reality is there IS plenty more money where that came from. ‘They’ are printing it faster than you can spend it.
Don’t dish the power of a statement or mantra’s like these. They actually rewire your brain. They form new neural pathways. They also affect your nervous system – by turning off your stress response. They also cause you to have new perceptions (new pictures in your mind) and new feelings, which is the same affect a hypnotherapist is working with. When you change your perception, you change your reality.
4. Congratulate not criticize
This is a good one that T.Harv Eker talks about in his great book ‘The Millionaire Mind’. If you look at someone that you believe to be wealthy and call them an a-hole, loser, arrogant beep beep beep, then you are also telling your mind you do not want to be like that. Essentially you are saying being wealthy equals being a loser. So your beautiful mind – which does not judge – makes sure you do not become one of those losers, by helping you to repel and avoid money. This is another way of telling your mind that: MONEY = PAIN.
The antidote is to congratulate people on their successes. When someone has a win, say ‘well done’. It is not the money that makes someone a loser or a miserable human being. The money just has the potential to make anyone’s character more obvious.
5. Educate yourself
What do you need to do if you want to be good at anything?
Want to be ‘financially secure’ but have not read a single book on finances or listened to or attended any courses. What are your chances of success? It is like wanting to be a great athlete but never attending training, listening to a coach or doing any practice.
Here are some of the books I recommend on money:
- Secrets of the Millionaire Mind by T.Harv Eker
- The Richest Man in Babylon by George S. Classon
- Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kyosaki
- The Millionaire Fastlane by MJ DeMarco
- Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill
- The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey
In Summary
In my experience, with my clients and myself, the thing that has the biggest impact on your money situation, and the feelings you experience in relation to money, is to change the beliefs and repetitive statements you make about money. This is a key to changing your life and a big focus of the work we do on the 30-Day Happiness Challenge.
