Based on the 2-day event (Total Success) with Tony Robbins in Singapore in May 2015. A lot of reminders for me, and hopefully they will be for you too.
Tip 1: Motion creates emotion
This is a bit of a signature saying of his.
And it makes a LOT of sense. When we move our bodies, we change our emotional state. If you are feeling a bit jaded, or out of it, or sad, try jumping up and down 5 times, shaking your body out for 10 seconds, shake your butt for 10 seconds, and then do the victory move with your arms up in the air as if you have just won the race of your life; and you WILL be in a different state.
No movement is a sign of death (one end of the spectrum). Therefore movement is a sign of life and life is drawn to life. Life responds to life. So move your body if you want to change your state.
Tip 2: What state are you in?
And we are not talking the one on your address. ;-)We are talking about the emotional state, and this follows on from Tip 1.
If you want to make a powerful decision, or be effective when you say “No!, or perform at a high level in a meeting, then you need to be in the right emotional state to meet that challenge or situation.
And we can change our ‘state’ in a heartbeat (as Robbins said often) if we move our body. What he called changing your physiology. And by changing what you FOCUS on. We can actually replicate any emotional state we want by changing our bodies and our focus (internal dialogue).
So we can actually practice ‘powerful’. You just need to stand and move how you would if you were powerful, breathe how you would if you were powerful, think about times you were powerful, and focus on empowering inner dialogue.
And whammo!! You are POWERFUL.
Tip 3: Success is 80% psychology and 20% strategy
Yep. I know that my success and that of my Coaches and clients is interwoven, in a major way with our psychology.
Robbins used a good example. Do most people understand the basics of losing weight or getting fit? Not at the elite level but at a you and me level. Most people know they need to move their bodies and put less rubbish in their mouths for starters. So its not a knowledge thing. It is the application of that knowledge. It is the mental and emotional road blocks that are in the way of doing what most of us know basically how to do.
It is about building up the psychology that is in alignment with the success or goal that you want to achieve. When you create a psychological burning desire in your heart that says I MUST ACHIEVE THIS GOAL, you will figure out a way. Then you just need to overcome and work through the psychological roadblocks along the way – which I call limiting beliefs and disempowering stories. The bigger your hunger (emotional energy) the easier it is to overcome these hurdles and rewire your brain along the way.
So…how is your Psychology when it comes to success? Do you need to update some old software? (Don’t we all)
Tip 4: Leaders are Readers
A reminder he threw out at some point.
You know I LOVE my books (my girlfriend sometimes says to me that I love my books more than her…which is not entirely true). For me books = knowledge. Which is one of the foundation pieces of WISDOM. Who doesn’t want more of that? Wisdom = better choices = better RESULTS.
What book, or books, are you reading at the moment that are helping enhance the quality of your life and those you care most about? Here are some suggestions: The Guidebook to Optimum Health by Carl Massy, Resilience by Eric Greitens, Flourish by Martin Seligman (Positive Psychology), Money by Tony Robbins, and The Fear Cure by Lissa Rankin.
Tip 5: ‘Gratitude is the antidote to fear and anger’
Yep. I think this is pretty clear.
Don’t wait for gratitude to show up. Practice it daily and often. It is a biochemical elixir for our bodies and health – physically, mentally and emotionally. It deactivates the stress response. Done often and deliberately it WILL change your life.
How do you feel when you connect to gratitude? Awesome, right! Would you like to feel that more often? Then as Mr Nike says: JUST DO IT!
A few more freebies…and quotes from Tony Robbins
“If you are in business: fall in love with your clients, not your products and services.”
“To change your state – ASK BETTER QUESTIONS” (which changes your internal dialogue).
“Trade expectations for APPRECIATION” (more of that GRATITUDE stuff).
“There is no such thing as failure. There is winning and there is learning.” I likie!!
“People have a strong mental drive to stay consistent with their IDENTITY.” Even if their identity is not serving them. i.e. I am a perfectionist. I am a people pleaser. I am over-emotional. This will definitely be a whole subject for a future Happiness Tips Newsletter.
A final word (or two)
What one Tip can you focus on integrating, or being more aware or or applying into your own life? Got one? Now you know what to do…JUST DO IT!!!
See you next week! 😉
And please ask any questions you have. Plus I love hearing feedback from you on what resonated for you. Also do me and others a huge favour and pass them on. Knowledge used in the right way is definitely a way to access our incredible power. All the very best and take care.
